Understanding this month's mobile deals
A closer look at what usually separates one monthly package from another, so you can ask the right questions when you call.
What moves the price
Four things that shape a monthly package
Data allowance
The biggest factor. Light users browsing and messaging can often sit comfortably in the 5–15GB range, while streaming, gaming or working from a phone regularly pushes usage toward 40GB and up.
Contract length
Shorter rolling contracts (1 month) tend to carry a slightly higher monthly cost in exchange for flexibility. Longer terms (12–24 months) often lower the monthly figure but reduce how easily you can switch.
Handset vs SIM-only
A SIM-only package is usually the cheaper route if you already own a phone. Deals that bundle a new handset carry the device cost inside the monthly price, which is worth separating out mentally.
Extras and add-ons
Hotspot/tethering allowance, EU or international roaming, and multi-SIM or family options can all shift the price up or down depending on what's included as standard versus added on.

Worth asking about
Questions that save you money later
Is there a price rise built in?
Some contracts include an annual increase tied to inflation. Ask whether the monthly figure you're quoted is fixed for the full term.
What happens at the end of the term?
Plans can roll onto a higher rate once the initial term ends unless you actively switch or renegotiate. Ask what the "out of contract" price looks like.
Does data roll over?
Unused data doesn't always carry into the next month. If your usage varies a lot, it's worth asking how rollover works.
What's included for roaming?
EU and international roaming allowances differ widely between package types. Confirm this if you travel regularly.
